Ingredients
  

  • Hamburger Steaks
  • lb ground beef 80/20 or lean
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Potato Layer
  • 2 lb russet or Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
  • Creamy Sauce
  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • cups milk
  • For Baking
  • 2 tbsp butter cut into small pieces
  • Optional Add-Ins
  • Sliced onions
  • Shredded cheddar cheese for topping

Method
 

  1. Preheat Oven
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Make Hamburger Steaks
  4. In a bowl, gently mix ground beef, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Form into 5–6 evenly sized patties.
  5. Layer Potatoes
  6. Arrange sliced potatoes evenly in the bottom of the baking dish. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  7. Add Patties
  8. Place hamburger patties on top of the potato layer.
  9. Prepare Sauce
  10. Whisk cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth. Pour evenly over the patties and potatoes.
  11. Add Butter & Bake
  12. Dot butter over the top. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 50 minutes.
  13. Finish Baking
  14. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until potatoes are tender and meat is fully cooked.
  15. Rest & Serve
  16. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
