Method
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta until al dente.
- Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
- Return pasta to the warm pot and immediately add butter.
- Toss gently until butter melts.
- Slowly add pasta water while tossing to create a silky sauce.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese if using.
- Serve immediately with fresh herbs or protein on top.
