Cattle Drive Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • Beef Layer
  • lb 680 g lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Base
  • 12 oz 340 g pasta (penne or rotini), cooked al dente
  • or 3 cups sliced potatoes / tater tots alternative
  • Creamy Layer
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or cheddar blend, divided

Method
 

  1. Brown the Beef
  2. Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Prepare Base
  4. Cook pasta until al dente (or prep potatoes/tater tots). Set aside.
  5. Mix Creamy Layer
  6. In a bowl, stir together soup and sour cream until smooth.
  7. Assemble
  8. Spread pasta (or potatoes) in a greased baking dish. Top with beef, then creamy mixture. Sprinkle with cheese.
  9. Bake
  10. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  11. Serve
  12. Rest 5 minutes before serving.
